3. Continuous wave (CW) modulation and demodulation schemes:

Amplitude Modulation (AM),generation & demodulation; Modified forms of AM-Double sideband suppressed carrier (DSBSC), single sideband suppressed carried (SSBSC) and Vestigial sideband (VSB) modulation; mixers; frequency division multiplexing; Angle modulation phase modulation (PM) & frequency modulation (FM); narrow and wideband FM; generation & demodulation; Phase locked loop (PLL)

4. Super-heterodyne receivers and noise in CW modulation systems:

Super-heterodyne AM/FM receivers, Receiver model; signal to noise ratio (SNR), noise figure, noise temperature; noise in DSB-SC, SSB, AM & FM receivers; pre-emphasis and de-emphasis

5. Pulse modulation/demodulation schemes:

Sampling process; pulse amplitude modulation/demodulation; other forms of pulse modulation/demodulation; quantization process; pulse code modulation (PCM); line coding; noise consideration in PCM; time division multiplexing; deferential pulse code modulation; delta modulation; adaptive delta modulation

Assignments

Experiments include design of Active and Passive filters, Instrumentation Amplifier, AM Modulator and Demodulator Circuits, DSB-SC , SSB-SC Modulator Circuits, (Both balanced and unbalanced), FM Modulator and Demodulator Circuits, Delta Modulation Circuit, Mixer/ Frequency converter Circuits, etc. All designs have to be verified first using any analog circuit simulation tools, like PSpice, Multisim, TINA, OrCAD, etc. followed by implementations of the verified designs in PCB. Finally, functioning of the circuits on PCB are verified using test signals, AFO, CRO and Power Supply.

Laboratory

Generation, Testing and Verification of AM,FM,PM, DSB & DSB-SC, SSB & SSB-SC wave, Phase Detection using PLL, PCM, Pre-emphasis & De-emphasis, etc.
