           This module  puts  Geographical Information Systems into its proper context.   It  gives the first hand introduction to Geographical Information System(GIS).  The definitions, history, potentials and  the relationship of this newly emerging technology with other disciplines such as Geography, Remote sensing, Computer Science etc are covered. The hardware software and people omponents of GIS are also highlighted.
