1.  Introduction Maps, cartography, automated cartography of GIS, GIS( or spatial database),as an extension of Database technology
2.  Characteristics of spatial  data Co-ordinate systems, map projections, primitives of spatial data types
3.  Spatial data representation and operations Vector, raster, chain codes, quad-tree, Kd-tree, R-tree etc ( comparative study), computing areas, perimeter etc using above structures
4.  Surface representation DEM,DTM,Wire Frame model, TIN, advanced techniques of DEM such as fractal etc
5.  Spatial queries and query processing Extension of SQL, for spatial query, extension of OODBMS for spatial query, spatial join, query processing in spatial databases
6.  Hardware and sowftware requirements Digitizer, scanner, data output display, map generalization, name placement etc
7.   Applications of GIS  
8.   Spatial  DSS and  WEB enabled GIS  
9.   Acquintance with commercial GIS sowftwares ARC-INFO, ARC VIew, MapInfo, GRASS, IDRISIS, Atlas, etc
